BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The Auckland Board of Education met yesterday. Present: The chairman (Mr. Udy), Messrs. Upton, Luke, Carr, and Rice (secretary). Chairman's Report.The chairman reported that a circular had been issued to committees notifying the intention of the Board to invite tenders for painting school buildings during the ensuing season. Mr. F. E. Lowe had been appointed to the Wellesley-street School during the absence of the assistant master. The report! was adopted.
School.— application for the establishment of a school at Utakura, near Okaihau, was referred to the Okaihau Committee.
Miscellaneous. —An application for gymnastic apparatus for the Grafton Road School was declined. A request was made for a grant for a library at the Napier-street School. The sum of £10 had been collected. The Board resolved to give £1 for £1 up to £10, a number of applications of minor importance were disposed of. The Kohukohu Committee stated that they viewed with alarm the decision of the Board to stop 33 per cent of their funds for the painting of the school. Their yearly income was £6, of which £4 had to be paid for cleaning. The Board decided to meet the Committee by allowing the payment to run over a longer period than a year.
