At an early hour yesterday morning the Napier-owned steamer Kahu arrived in port, anchoring in the stream. She is a trim little iron vessel of 90 tons, and has l>een for some time engaged in the Napier - Wellington trade- She is under command of Captain Romeril. well-known here. He reports that she left Napier on the 9th inst., and experienced heavy easterly winds and hagh seas till arrival. During the forenoon the Kahu berthed at the Northern S.S. ing. The coasting cutter Venus will sail to-day for Whangarci, there to load coal for Napier. Daring yesterday the "Union steamers Southern Cross and Manapouri were loading cargo for the Fast Coast and Southern port* respectively. Both steamers are to sail today. From Southern exchanges we learn that the ketch Kestrel has sailed from Kaiapoi, for Auckland, with produce. The s.s. Rowena got away for the Thames yesterday forenoon, with passengers and cargo. At Napier, the schooner Enterprise is loading up with potatoes for this port. Yesterday the coastal schooners Waiapu and Gisborne were busily patting out their cargoes of grain and produce from the Bay of Plenty, at the Queen-street Wharf. The barque Devonport and brigantine Darcy Pratt were lying in the stream yesterday, and will probably sail for Lyttelton and Sydney respectively. "During yesterday the brigantine Sarah Pile was landing her Rarotongan oranges in good condition. Advices from Whangarei state that the easterly gale which prevailed on Thursday ■was very severely felt there. At Marsden Point two boats were lifted fully 30 feet beyond high water mark, being clashed to pieces. The scow Ruakaka was driven clean over a high sandbank usually high above the reach of the tide.
