FEDERATION OF EMPLOYERS.
MEETING AT CHRISTCHURCH. [by telegraph.—press association.] Christciiurck, Friday. A meeting of employers, attended by about 200, was held this afternoon under the auspices of the Chamber of Coin merce. The Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Industrial Association, were represented. The President of the Chamber of Commerce presided. The following resolutions were passed :That an Association be formed to secure to its members all the advantages of unanimity of action now enjoyed by the Associated Trades Unions, and to provide a recognised body having authority to deal with the representatives of labour in all matters affecting their common interests, and with the view to the adjustment of all differences between employers and employed ; that it be a direction from this meeting that the executive immediately place themselves in communication with other associations of a similar character in other centres of New Zealand, in order to form a federation of employers of labour for the whole of Jvew Zealand ; that it be a direction from this meeting that the executive cause an election to be made of representatives to form half of a Board of Conciliation which should form a final Court of Appeal to determine all questions which employers and employed may be unable to settle among themselves." A Provisional Executive of '24 members, representing the commercial, agricultural, and industrial interests, was appointed. The speeches do livered were, with two or three exceptions, very conciliatory in tone.
