THAMES HARBOUR BOARD BILL.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Friday. A special meeting of the Thames Harbouf Board was held this morning for the purpose of considering the following telegram received from the Hon. E. Mitchelson re the Harbour Board Bill now before the House : —" The river people strenuously opposing the Bill; they offer if river left out to accept proportion of liabilities, amount to be settled by arbitration on population or other equitable basis. Would Board accept." After some discussion, during the course of which it was stated ib was quite clear that the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson had been misinformed, as the " river people " should read " Bagnall 8r05.," because the river people were not making any strenuous opposition as represented, the following resolution was drawn up and unanimously carried, and i» copy ordered to be at once telegraphed to the Hon. Mr. Mitchelson :— The Board will not entertain the proposal contained in your telegram of yesterday re Bill. The only opposition is from timber companies. Bona fide settlers witjjin five miles limit are not: opposing. The Board only require to be placed in their old position of 18/4, which existed while Bagnall was chairman and member of the Board for years, and was party to raising loan of £6000. We accept your Bill as printed, and if not passed this session Government can be prepared to take over the functions of the Board."
