MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. May Queen. —No. 1 lode : In consequence of the limited space for stacking quartz, underground, driving on this reef has been discontinued for the present. From three to four loads of quartz nave been broken. The reef in the face of the drive is inches wide, and shows first-class minerals for gold. No. 4 footwall branch : Tho stopes on this reef have produced a fair amount of good crushing dirt during the past week, gold being frequently seen through the quartz. Splendid ground for gold, with black mineral veins striking into the reef, shows in the face of No. 4 stope. About eight inches of capital grade ore is being saved here, and from 12 to 15 inches in the Nob. 2 and '.', stopes. A rise f or a fifth stope has been commenced. No. 4 reef east: The drive on the No. 4 reef east is now in a distance of 82 feet from the crosscut. The lode is still about two feel wide. Excellent sandstone still shows in the end of the drive. Some nice dubs of coarse gold were seen here on Saturday "last. No. 4 reef west towards the slide, The leading scope here has now been carried forward to the face, and the quartz broken therefrom left on the floor of the drive, as all the available space for stacking quartz on the brace will be required for the dirt broken from the drive and leading etope east, No further quartz, therefore, will be broken from this end until the hoppers are erected. Tho total length of the leading stope east and west is now 85 feet, of which TO feet has been timbered up. The reef throughout will average two feet in thickness, is well mineralised, and a little gold has boon seen. The contractor for the hoppers, shoots, etc., is making good progress, and .should the weather continue favourable he expects to have the work completed at the end of next week. Cambria.—The long-intended operation of prospecting the reef above No. 2 level upwards to the Nightingale drive, is commenced at last. There are 170 feet of backs unprospected, and it is just possible that the gold expected always in the reef in the locality of the operation may result in an important find of gold.
