THE POSTMEN'S STRIKE.
EJECTION OF NON-UNIONISTS. WORKING UNDER POLICE PRO. TECTION. Press Association.Electric Telegraph.— London, July 9. The Unionists ejected the blacklegs from the parcels department of the Post Office. Barricades were erected in the letter department, behind which the new hands worked under the protection of police. The Unionists finally resinned work, and meet this afternoon to determine their future action ; meanwhile deliveries have been resumed, upon the Postmaster-General promising to remove the blacklegs pending the settlement of general claims. There was a full muster of postmen at the meeting last night. It was contended that the men had compelled a further withdrawal of blacklegs by the authorities. Later. The postmen are willing not, to go out on strike before 21st instant, providing the blacklegs at present employed are dismissed. They intimate that deliveries will be refused to-day if the blacklegs are still employed. A meeting of 4000 postmen was held at Camberwell, Surrey, at midnight, when complaints were made of numerous blacklegs being concealed in the vaults of the central office. The men agreed to refrain from attendance at every office until notified that the whole of the blacklegs had been dismissed. The secretary of the Union advised the men not. to injure blacklegs in any way, but endeavour to gain redress in a peaceful manner. The sorters have joined the Union. Mr. Pearse, the correspondent of the Daily News, was mobbed as a spy. London. July 10. One hundred men, who joined in attacking the Mack engaged in the parcel department of the Post Office, have been dismissed by the postal authorities, who decline to pledge themselves not to employ additional labour until the 21st instant, and it is believed that the postmen will be compelled to yield. Anyhow the officials are confident they will be able to conduct the service for two davs.
