THE NEW PLYMOUTH MURDER.
[BY telegraph.PßESS association.] New Plymouth, Monday. The inquest into the circumstances attending the death of tho old man Mnloney, who was found murdered in the Recreation Ground, was resumed and concluded today. Mr. Samuel did not offer any evidence on behalf of the prisoner. The coroner summed up, and tho jury retired at 26 minutes past four o'clock. They returned into Court at 25 minutes past rive o'clock with a verdict to tho effect that tho deceased was wilfully murdered, and that suspicion rested on the accused. The coroner declined to accept tho verdict, and instructed the jury that they must either bring in a verdict of wilful murder against the accused or an open verdict. Tho jury retired, and on returning the foreman said there was little prospect of the jury arriving at a verdict. Tho coroner instructed them again to retire, and said ho would receive them again to-night.
