■ <► .....—. THE MUTINY ON THE EGERIA* Sydney, May 24. As a result of the trouble which recently occurred on board H.M.s. Egeria, it is probable that Lieutenant Helby will resign his post on that vessel and join H.M.s. Rambler, which is under orders to proceed to the China station. It is understood that an inquiry has been held into the conduct of the officers of the H.M.s. Egeria by Captain Barlow, of H.M.s. Orlando. It has been ascertained that a notification issued by him states that the crew had no special cause for mutiny.

LABOUR DISPUTE. Sydney, May 25. The wharf labourers have decided that the rules and regulations adopted at the recent Conference shall come into force on the Ist July next. The employers object to them, and it is considered probable that a difficulty will ari&e. Employees in the clothing trade have struck for higher wages, and as the* masters are resisting the demand, it is feared that the strike may assume alarming proportions. THE BRITISH BROKEN HILL SILVER MINING COMPANY. Melbourne, May 24. At a meeting of shareholders in the British Broken Hill Silver Mining Company to-day, it was stated that the furnaces at the mine have shut down, owing to a creep in the drive where the main carbonate ore stops, and that practically it will be necessary to reopen the mine at another portion of the reef. It is estimated to contain over 600,000 tons of best ore, and a million tons of poorer class are in sight. The indebtedness of the company is £16,000, and the London directors will be recommended to issue £100,000 worth of debentures for the purpose of opening up and further developing the mine. FARLEY RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Sydney, May 24. At the inquest regarding the collision between the Brisbane and Sydney express trains at Farley, a small wayside station about two miles from West Maitland, on the 15th instant, in which a jockey named McFadyen was killed outright, the jury found the accident was caused by the culpable negligence of John Farnham, the driver of the train to Brisbane, and the stoker, J. Buchanan. Warrants have been issuecl for their arrest. THE POSTAL CONFERENCE. Adelaide, May 24. At the Postal Conference, Mr. Deer* ham's motion, that the proposed reduction in cable rates be tried for three years, was carried.
