[FROM OUR O\fS COBRESPO>"DEN*TS.J . . Hamilton, Tuesday. Business has been brisker of late in Hamilton, and there are signs of an improved state of things. Not a single man is out of work, and' contractors in ] the neighbourhood are advertising in Vain for hands. ;., On Saturday last there was a marked improvement at the weekly auction sales of Mes3rs. Knox and Ridler, both in attendance and in briskness of bidding, and good prices :were obtained : New potatoes', lid per lb"; butter, od ; cheese, sd; ducks, Is 3d to Is 6d; fowls, 10d to Is od; hams, s£d per lb. . • , The easterly gale abated after sundown last night." A little rain fell, but very little, not a tenth of what was needed. By 9 o'clock last night the moon was shining in an almost unclouded sky. The specimen copies of the fine chromolithograph picture to be given away with each copy of the Christmas number of the Auckland Weekly News, representing the first arrival of the Maoris in New Zealand, and which have been forwarded to the various agents in Waikato, have excited a considerable amount of attention. A large number of orders have already been received, and are still pouring in from all quarters. Arriving in Waikato by Friday's mail the public here will not only be able to secure copies for themselves, but receive them in time to forward next day and Monday for the outgoing English mail to friends at home. Last year considerable disappointment was felt by a large number of people, the local agents having sold out the supply of the Christmas number before the demand was satisfied, and agents are endeavouring to avoid this occurring again by making ah earlier canvass for orders. The Hamiltoa East School entertainment realised between £14 and £15, £11 of which were taken at the doors. Some little friction exists between the Auckland and Waikato Hospitals which should be eased off. A case recently was sent to the Auckland Hospital from Churchill, as the train was then leaving for Auckland, and the hemorrhage great—the wrenching off of younjc Nickissou's arm by one of the flaxmill machines. The Waikato Hospital has received a bill for £18, at the rate of 4s per day, for this patient's treatment when in the Auckland Hospital, Nickisson having been unable to pay it. At the same time the Eatient has stated that he was told that had e been recei% r td from their own district, the charge would have been only 23 per day. Tauwhare, Tuesday. Captain Riincknan, as chairman of the Tamahere highway district, has called a meeting of all those interested in railway reform for Monday next, at Walworth's Temperance Hotel. The question of the character of the reform in railway matters needed for Waikato will be fully discussed. Cambridge, Tuesday. At Bolton's clearing sale on Friday last at the Hamilton yards, Mr. A. Clements, of Cambridge, bought a dray, and applied to the stationmaster at Hamilton as to the charge for sending it on to Cambridge. He was told Is per mile for the first ten miles, and 3d per mile for each in excess of 10, or 11s altogether. As a consequence, he sent a boy and horse down by road, and fetched it up at a cost of 3s. \ ■'■ Te Aroha, Tuesday. A project is on foot to establish a creamery at Waitoa. •
