PIGEON SHOOTING HADICAOP.
[by TKIiEGKAI'It.—fRK3S association.] Dunedin, Tuosday. The Exhibition Pigeon Shooting Handicap, arranged by the Dunedin Gun Club;-came off on Carisbrook Ground this afternoon, and attracted numerous entries from both Islands, but the attendance < of s the public was disappointing. Of the 43 nominations there was only 1 absentee. The conditions were 9 biros, 2 nominations allowed. The weather was perfect, there being barely a breath of wind, and light good. > Mr. E. W. Roper :was referee. : The arrangements were ; most complete. At the end or the seventh round the competition was apparently v confined to Messrs. Whittle and H. Redwood; W. Mason and Dobbie, all of whom had not let a bird escape. In second ! nomination Mr. Redwood had already missed 3 birds ; in the first round Whittle lost a bird, but Redwood killed, but Mason missed a strong bird; Dobbie killed with the second barrel. This left Redwood and Dobbie to fire, and they decided.to divide, Redwood taking £65 and Dobbie £55. Cowie killed all his birds, but was disqualified for putting his hat over one fluttering. In firing off the ties for the third prize, Mason and Hill each scored nine consecutively, Mason killing the tenth bird, and winning the prize (£10). Messrs. Knight, Hill, Whittle, Wilson, Lunn, and Cowie each took £3 33. In the Handicap Sweep of one guinea, 3 birds, R. J. Mason (Yaldhurst) took first prize, £20; J. Dance (Ashburton) and H. Wolvin (Kaikoura , ) divided the second and third, £4 each. There were 28 entries. : - ■■ ■- -■■■"•- • ; : -- ' : ■ .'■■;.:-'>; ;
