KAPONGA CONTRACT. It will be seen by advertisement elsewhere that tho Public Works Department call for tenders for what is known as the Kaponga - v contract), on the Auckland-Rotorua line/' The length is 10£ miles from Ngatira sta* tion, which is" eight miles from Putaruru ;v Junction, to Kaponga station, situated neaC , ' the summit of the line. This length is all) ■ , through bush, and taps a very-large area of first-class Government; land, which will probably form tho sites for '■■ future special settlements. The contract includes formation, permanent way, '■■ and two or three holdings. A road has been surveyed to join \ the main • coach road from Oxford 'i to ■ ri4 Ohinemutu, the length of this road ■ being, about six miles.' < The V completion jof the \ !/ above <■ contract and ■ this road will ; bring A ■Rotorua within one day's travelling of Auckland. Should the Government, however, proceed with the construction : of the ;' line right through to Rotorua, there will i remain a further length of 12£ miles of line to complete.
