The planting of fruit trees is going on at an enormous pace in Southern California. The Los Angeles Herald reports that in the section adjacent to Pomona nearly 1,000,000 orange trees have been set out this season. One nurseryman at Santa Anna reports the following sales for the season to date : — Apple trees, • 2500; pears, 20,000; peach, 2500; nectarines, 1000; apricots, 400; prunes, 1500; plums, 1500; figs, 200; cherries, 800 ; olives, 300; oranges, 1500; lemons, 200; soft sholl walnuts, over 100,000; chestnuts, 1000; almonds, 150; strawberries, 10,000; blackberries, 5000; raspberries, 5000; grape vinos, 2500. The planting of walnut trees this year is phenomenal in its greatness.
