[BY TKr.KORAI'If. —PKKSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Tuesday. Me. Hamlin waited on the Minister of Defence to-day, with reference to a suggestion that the competitors to the Dunedin meeting should receive Martini-Henrys free of cost on their companies becoming responsible. No definite answer was received, but it is believed tho suggestion will be acted upon.
[Mr. J. P. liaultain forwarded to Major Hamiin, at Wellington, the resolution passed at a meeting of volunteers, held on the previous evening, relative to tho refusal of tho Government to issue MartiniHenry rifles, except they were paid for. Ho yesterday received a reply from Major Hamiin, .stating that he had wailed on tho Defence Minister, who said he would agree to supply five or six rifles to ench corps, the cost to be deducted from this year's capitation, and to this Mr. liaultain replied, that tho companies could not pay for rifles, and that the Government should supply them free of cost.]
