THE N.S.W. DEFICIT. Sydney, August 22. A Bill authorising the issue of £2,600,000 worth of Treasury Bills, to cover the deficit, has passed the House of Assembly.
CHARGE OP MURDER. Melbourne, August 22. A man named McNamara has been arrested at Pakeham on a charge of murdering another man named Foy, by splitting his head open with a slasher.
DISCOVERY OF COAL. Melbourne, August 22. A seam of brown coal 100 feet thick has been struck at Moswell, an important town on the Gippsland Railway line, 88 miles east of Melbourne.
COLONIAL DEFENCES. Hobart, August 22. The Premier concurs in the proposal that Thursday Island should be garrisoned by Imperial troops, at the charge of all the colonies, but he regards the defence of King George's Sound, as of little importance compared with that of Hobart, which lies nearest to Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney, and New Zealand. He considers that the entire question should be referred to the Federal Council.-
