ILLEGAL USE OF THE LETTERS "V.R."

[BY TELEGRAPH.—I'KKSS ASSOCIATION.] Gkkymodth, Thursday. At the Magistrate's Court this morning William Campbell was charged with unlawfully without authority permitting his coach, running between Greyinouth and Roof ton, to bear the letters " V.R.," thus giving reasonable cause to holievo that the coach was engaged in carrying the Queen's mails. The accused pleaded guilty. The prosecutor, Postmaster Calders, asked for merely a nominal penalty, as it was a first offence. Tho accused was fined Is and costs.
