THE GOLDFIELDS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWX COKKESPONDENT.] Thames, Monday. Sharemahket—Manukau, sellers Is sd, buyers Is 3d; May Queen, sellers lid; Moiinatauiri, 2s Sd, sellers 2.s 10d ; Alburnta, 3s Id, sellers 3s Id ; Saxon, 9s 6d, sellers 10s, buyers 9s ; Trenton, buyers 4s.

Waiotahi.—The past month's operations have resulted in the satisfactory return of 2450z sdwts melted gold, for which 220 tons of quartz were crushed. Saxon.—The men are now employed in squaring up the bottom of the winze sunk from the No. 4 level where it communicated with the drive upon No. 2 reef at No. 5 level. As soon as this is accomplished, and the drive timbered up, a start will be made to drive hill ward upon the reef on which the winze wns sunk.

MINE MANAGERS , REPORTS. Trkxtok. —The western drive has been extended a distance of twenty-two feet during the week. The country has been hard and full of open seams, but in the face to-day it is good-looking country for goldbearing lodes, there are also small stringers of quartz running through it. The contractors for driving the bottom level commenced their contract on Wednesday, and have driven since then about four feet. On Thursday morning water was cut in this drive which has Kept us constantly baling water since then, ana we have been scarcely able to keep it from rising with the barrels at our disposal. I will keep the engine working to-morrow (Sunday), but if the water does not abate before Monday something else should be done. There is little or no change in the country in the bottom level. The mine manager wired yesterday, " The water is much easier to-day." May QuKKtf.—Re' the completion of the contract for the erection of the winding plant, it will take the contractor till about the end of next week (Saturday, the 10th) to get the contract completed. I would recommend the cleaning out and the rc-timberiug of the shaft to be done by contract, the company to find one engine-driver ; if more than one driver is required, the contractor to pay their wages. The mine, manager was wired yesterday to call tenders for clearing out and re-timbering the balance of the depth of the shaft in accordance with the above recommendations.

New Moanatataju. —No. 4 level, Cambria : The third stope going both ways from winze is now well in hand, and the country is looking much better for gold. Only a small portion of the lead at the winze has as yet been broken down in this stope. The band of mineralised stone is getting stronger, and I am in hopes that from this upwards the lead will be payable. There are now between 30 and -10 loads of quartz on hand, which will be forwarded to the battery next week, but as there has been very little gold seen only in the sinking of the .winze, I do not expect it to yield much. The main crosscut going through the big reef is now well into sandstone, but there is no defined wall, and the quartz appears to be going out on the top of the drive instead of tho bottom. Point Russell level: Very good headway i'r being made with the drive on the Reuben Parr reef, which is now being carried along on the hanghigwall. There is no material change in the character of the lode, it being still a good deal mixed up with sandstone and dead mineral, and so far no gold has been seen. Yesterday a leader three or four inches thick came in from the hangingwall, but has not yet functioned with the mam lode. In this lead there is more quartz, so that it may improve the reef when it junctions with it. Repairs to level: It will take another week to get in to the point where the drive will strike off for the Golden Age reef.

SOUTHERN MINING. [BY TKT.EORAI>H.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Donedin, Monday. A complete crushing plant has been ordered by the Victorian and Break-o'-day Companies, at Nenbhorne, from the Pacific Ironworks, 'Frisco.

The Big Beach Dredging Company (Sew Hoy's) Shotover, washed up on Saturday and obtained HGozs retorted gold. There is a large amount of pegging out going on both on the Kawarua and Shotover Rivers, the Shotover being pegged out from its junction with the Kawarua upwards. Some claims have also been taken up on the Darb and Rees Rivers at the head of the Lake.
