SNIDER AMMUNITION.
ANOTHER VICTORY FOR THE AUCKLAND FACTORY.
A short time since, the officer commanding the Wairoa Rifles applied to the Defence storekeeper at Auckland for 900 rounds of colonial manufactured ammunition, and after several trials with it against Kynock's decided in favour of Whitney's manufactured ammunition. In the rifle match, Onehunga Rifles v. Wairoa Rifles, fired at Wairoa on the Queen's Birthday, the Wairoa Rifles used the Whitney and Onehunga Rifles the Kynock ammunition. Tho teams consisted of 15 men a-side, and each man fired 15 shots—five rounds at 200 yards, five at 300 yards, and five at 400 yards. The team that used the Whitney ammunition made 685 points, and the team that used the Kynock 500 points ; majority hi favour of the Whitney ammunition, 125 points. The Wairoa Rifles have just received their annual allowance of ammunition, all of which is from the New Zealand Cartridge Manufactory.— [Clevcdon Correspondent, May 28.]
