MINISTERIAL TRAVELLING.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. The Hon. Mr. Richnrdson has had some severe travelling experience in his journey North, from Stewart Island by the West Coast. The Stella, with stores, and having the Minister on board, visited the lighthouses on Puysegur Point, Preservation Inlet, Dusky Sound, Breaksea Sound, Wet Jacket Arm, Milford Sound, Jackson's Bay, and Martin's Bay. Periodical visits are made to these places, to see that stores are available for shipwrecked mariners and of distressed travellers. The mines at Mount Pegasus (Stewart's Island) have not made much progress, but Mr. Richardson found that about 7000 acres of land were taken up under mining leases, lie found the miners of the West Coast living on the faith of several new prospects, but energetic in turning over old ground. The agricultural people along the route were hopeful. At the Moonlight claim he saw a sixty ounce nugget, all of it gold. Ho speaks favourably of the enterprise of the people of the mining district.
