THE AUCKLAND RACING CLUB'S
WINTER MEETING. Very little wagering is at present being transacted over the A.R.C. Winter Meeting, and until the Wanganui horses arrive there is not likely to be much alteration in this
respect. Oddfellow remains a staunch favourite for both Hurdle Race and Steeplechase, and 10's to 1 have been freely taken about him winning the double. Straight out for the Great Northern Steeplechase, the following prices are quoted :— to 1 against Oddfellow, 4to 1 Guy Fawkes, sto 1 Recruit, 6 to 1 Artist, 6 to 1 Orangeman, 7 to 1 Silvio, 10 to 1 Don.
lheLgmont Racing Club's Meeting takes place to-day. The following are the acceptances for the Steeplechase : — Orangeman, lOstlllb; Oddfellow. 10st91b; Jubilee, 9st 121b ; Rossiter, 9st 91b ; Sir Garnet, 9st 71b. J. Rae took Orangeman down by the s.a. Gairloch on Monday last, in order to fulfil his engagement in the above race.
Endeavours are being made by the committee of the Auckland Coursing Club to secure a supply of hares sufficient to conclude the events adjourned from Saturday test; A number are now available in the Wauiato, whilst the cover surrounding the club s grounds at Papatoetoe has been beaten to drive the hares or. into the drive.
The Pakuranga Hunt Club hold the opening meet of the season on Saturday next. The hounds will he thrown off near "the monument" at one o'clock.
