Received February 12,1.45 a.m. BOULANGER'S EEVISION SCHEME. Paris, February 11. It is expected that the Senate will reject the revision scheme General Boulanger has put forward. The proposals include, amongst other things, the election of a President on the American system, with a longer term of office. SHIPWRECK. London, February 11. The ship Benavon, from Hamburg to Sydney, is ashore at Schmingen. The crew with difficulty made their escape, and there is small hope of saving the vessel. THE IMPRISONMENT OF MR. O'BRIEN. London, February 11. It is asserted that O'Brien is in a precarious state of health, but Mr. Balfour, Secretary for Ireland, ridicules the idea. A meeting was held in Hyde Park to protest against O'Brien's imprisonment, but the proceedings were interrupted by a snow storm.
DECIMAL COINAGE. London, February 11. An association is being formed to promote the introduction of the decimal system of coinage, etc. THE PRINCE OF WALES AND SOCIALISM. London, February 9. It is stated on good authority that the Prince of Wales, conversing with an eminent statesman, while lamenting the prevalence of Socialism, added reflectively, " We are all Socialists." FIRE IN LONDON. : '!L London, February 9. A large fire, which destroyed a number of corn and oil stores, occurred at Ward's wharf, Lambeth. .;, .._. ' J{ j ■ THE RIOTS IN CHINA. * ! Hongkong, February 9. ■•: The riots at Tching Kiang were the result of a Chinese conspiracy against foreigners. The latter fled to Shanghai. THE FRENCH~ELECTORAL SYSTEM. - '-■" Paris, February ] 1. The Chamber of Deputies discuss the proposal for revising the electoral system on Thursday. THE COPPER SYNDICATE, London, February 11. The Standard persists in its statement that the copper syndicate is collapsing.
