COMMERCIAL.

New Zealand Herald Office. Saturday evening.

Messrs. Arthur and Huddle's Weekly Re- | tort. —There have been only six auction sales held this week. Monday : Pawnbroker's sale of unredeemed pledges from Mr. Keesing, pawnbroker, Victoria - street, held at the mart. There was a pood attendance throughout tho sale, which continued for nearly seven hours, and upon the whole good prices were obtained. Gold watches brought from £2 to £9, silver ones about 7s to £3. Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday : Sales of poultry, produce, fruit, etc. The whole were well attended, and very large quantities were disposed of. Wednesday : Sale of piano, household furniture and effects, at the mart. A fair attendance, bidding was rather dull, still a fair amount of business was done. A suite brought £16, piano, £17, iron bedsteads (double) 17s to £2 10s each, cheffonier, £2 10s, &c. Thursday : Sale of drapery, clothing, boots, etc., at the mart. The attendance was fairly good, but for many lines there was but little competition ; many lines had to bo passed ; prices ruled in favour of the buyers. Produce has come to hand in fair quantity, and has sold well. Potatoes have brought good prices. A demand for larger quantity. Any crops that are fully ripe should be sent in. It is very probable that when the Southern crops arc ripe enough for shipping prices will not bo so high. Fruit has come to baud in still larger quantities, as a matter of course prices have ruled low. Many of the apples sent in might have remained on trees for some time yet; all who possibly can should hold back their fruit, sending only that which is fully ripe, and will spoil if held ; the great rush will soon be over. Some of the plums to hand would have been better on tho trees for a week or more, others were too ripe. Over 1500 packages have come forward during the woek. Poultry: A good number of fowls were entered. Alibi good condition brought a fair —none under ls each, up to 2stwo or three lots of old and out-of-condition sold under ls. A large number of ducks entered, but few turkeys or geese. Pigs: Not a large number brought forward, but little demand. The new saleyard was not completed, but the sale was held there,-And was greatly appreciated. It will be all right by next Friday.
