FASHIONABLE MARRIAGE. London, January 15. The Hon. Fred Le Patourel, formerly private secretary to the Marquis of Normanby when the latter was Governor of New Zealand, will shortly be married to Miss Scaley, of Boston.
GIFT FROM THE POPE. Rome, January 15. The Pope has presented gifts, valued at ten thousand pounds, to many dignitaries of the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland.
THE SUGAR BOUNTIES CONVENTION. Berlin, January 14. From papers presented to the Diet it appears that Germany's adherence to the Sugar Bounties Convention is contingent on England excluding the importation of sugars from countries not participating in the Convention.
THE AUSTRALIAN PUGILIST. San Francisco, January 15. Peter Jackson, the Australian pugilist, has made a match with McAulhfe, of San Francisco, for two thousand dollars. The Australian champion has decided to visit England with the object of meeting Jem Smith. MINING IN BORNEO. London, January 15. An English-French syndicate has acquired two hundred square miles of auriferous country in Dutch Borneo. Several Australian mining capitalists are interested in the undertaking.
BORNEO AND AUSTRALIA. London, Ja.nuary 15. At a meeting of the British Borneo Trading Co., it was decided to open a timber trade with Australia.
