THE BIBLE AND PRAYER UNION.
The Union on Ist November had enrolled 274,000 members. The membership of the Auckland branch remains about the same as last year. Our fifth consecutive reading of * the Bible will begin on 17th January. The present is then a peculiarly good time both for looking up old members and gaining new. Testimonies are frequently given as to the value of the Union. One writes :— "I have belonged to the Union for twelve years, and have found the regular plan of reading the Bible the greatest blessing and help. To me, a busy Christian worker, the consecutive reading of the Bible is becoming year by year a greater blessing. As I open the Holy Book, and read the daily chapter, I seem to hear my loving Father's voice speaking to me just the word I need for help, comfort, and guidance. I find a great blessing in the daily readings. I have been led to know Jesus as my Saviour." Another writes :—" I think the Bible Union is fraught with blessings, and is in itself, independent of results, a most God-honour-ing agency." The way to become a member is very simple. Persons wishing to join send their name and and address, with a twopenny stamp, to Mr. Brakenrig, Y.M.C.A., .Auckland, in return for which they-will receive a card, of membership "containing their name on the roll, the principles of the Union, and a complete Calendar « chapters for the year 1889. • i . ■'■' ■ :,••: . ■
