CITY SCHOOLS COMMITTEE.

Tire usual meeting of the City Schools Committee was held yesterday evening at the Wellesley-street School, when there were present: Messrs. Gorrie (in the chair), McMaster, Blades, Farrell, Crowther, and Dasher. Cost of Painting Schools. — letter was received from the Board of Education stating that it was proposed to paint Nelson-street School, and charge one-half the contract price upon the school fund of the district. It was decided to reply that the committee, while approving of the painting of the school, regretted to say that the funds at the disposal of the committee were insufficient to allow of any contribution from them. Holiday for Sports.—.Mr. Worthington wrote, asking for permission to hold the annual school concert in the Wellesley-street school 011 Thursday next, and also inviting the committee to be present 011 the occasion. He also asked for a holiday on Friday for the schools sports. The headmaster of the Nelson-street School also asked for the same day for their school spurts. Mr. G. M. Burlinson, of the Albert-street School, wrote tha, lie proposed taking his pupils to St. Helier's Bay on Friday if the committee wouid grant permission. He had collected sufficient funds- for the purpose. Volunteer Accommodation.— dant Leßoy wrote that he wished to make application through the committee to the Commissioners of the Board of Education for permission to erect a " lean-to" at the end of the present Drill-shed. They (the Naval Artillery) required '25 feet for this building, four feet of which, he understood, belonged to the committee. The purpose of the shed was to teach the Naval Artillery the working and mounting of big guns, so as to enable them to work the battery guns should their services be required. It was decided, after considerable discussion, that the application be recommended to be granted, provided that on investigation by Mr. Blades and the chairman it was found that the applicants were entitled to 21 feet at the rear of the building. ________________
