The special prize for the best allround play at the draughts tournament was won by Morris, the Invercargill representative. HEAVY DEFALCATIONS. Melbourne, November 23. Fresh defalcations continue to bo discovered in connection with Butler. The deficiency disclosed now amounts* to £63,000. CRICKET. Adelaide, November 23. A match was begun to-day between" - the Australian Eleven and an eleven of South Australia. The former went in first, but only scored 134, of which Jones made 45 and Worrall 31. The local men put together 77 for the loss of two wickets only. NEW ZEALAND~OARSMEN IN SYDNEY. Sydney, November 23. The New Zealanders resident in Sydney met on the Wharf and welcomed the Canterbury crew, who were passengers by the Waihora, which arrived to-day. The oarsmen were afterwards entertained at the Town Hall by the Deputy-Mayor and aldermen, who welcomed them to Sydney. THE NEWCASTLE MINERS. Sydney, November 23.
