AGRICULTURE IN NEW CALEDONIA. London, November 22. Mr. John B. At a meeting of the London Chartered Bank of Australia, Mr. Garrick, of Queensland, chairman, stated that the rapid rise in the value of city properties in the leading colonies was only apparent, and it would be necessary to exercise caution in making advances on such property. THE PARNELL INQUIRY. - London, November 22. _ Counsel Reid has appealed to Sir •James Hannen to confine the evidence now being taken at the Times-Parnell inquiry to more reasonable limits. He pointed out that such a widespread testimony could serve no good purpose, but only tend to ruin everybody whose name was dragged into it. With reference to the shooting of Lord Mountmorris, the chief point elicited in the cross-examination of Lady Mountmorris showed that her husband's murder was due to a different cause than the tenants' vengeance. The President of the Court expressed a hope that the Times party would see its way to curtail the evidence in the direction indicated.
