[own CORRESPONDENTS.] Thames, Thursday. At the Police Court, to-day, the man Fry, alias Gloor, arrested yesterday, was sentenced as follows : Twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour for obscene language, six months for soliciting alms, and one month for resisting the police, the sentences to run consecutively and to be served in Mount Eden Gaol. Russell, Thursday. The concert held last night in aid of the cricket club was quite a success, and the funds will be materially benefited by it. [press ASSOCIATION.] Hokitika, Thursday. A man named Timothy Ryan was seriously injured while bush-falling on the William Tell claim yesterday afternoon. A tree splintered and knocked him down the slope, causing severe wounds to the head and bruising the body. He was unconscious when found by his mates, and it is feared that concussion of the brain has. been caused. A succession of gales, with strong steady wind, has been interfering with shipping to-day. The weather is cold and the crops are backward. The Bank of New Zealand shipped 26170z. of gold, to-day, valued at £10,470. Christchurch, Thursday. The weather has been wet all day, and it is now raining heavily with no prospect of cessation. Ddnedin, Thursday. Through the French Vice-Consul at Dunedin, Count D'Abbans, Consul-General at Wellington, has forwarded £10 for the exhibition guarantee fund, with an assurance of any further assistance in his power. The Wesleyan District Meeting to-day decided to recommend Conference to make ministers' removal expenses a charge on the contingent fund. During his visit to Dunedin Mr. McKerrow, Surveyor-General, arranged what is to be done this season to open up the route to Sutherland Falls. A boat is to be placed on Lake Ada, the track from the Sound to the lake improved, and on the other side, between the lake and falls, a track is to be blasted round a rock} bluff which impedes it. The overland track of McKinnon is also to be improved, and by next summer it is expected that it will bo available for ladies.
