THE MINERS' STRIKE
DIABOLICAL OUTRAGE. [PKESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, October 16 The South Bulli Co.'s miners .have struck. Seven arrests have been made in connection with the Wallsend riots. A futile attempt was made to-day to wreck the Wallsend train, in which the manager of the Wallsend mine was supposed to be travelling.
FIRE IN MELBOURNE. Melbourne, October 16. A fire broke out at Spencer-street railway station this afternoon tlirough the bursting of a lamp. The luggage room was destroyed, but the station buildings were saved with some difficulty.
SENTENCE OF DEATH. Brisbane, October 16. Selim, the Malay who ran a muck at Normanton some time ago, and murdered several whites, has been sentenced to death.
A SINGULAR CASE. Sydney, October le.* In the year 1864 Dr. Drummond, an' English medical practitioner, had his diplomas stolen, and most searching inquiries failed to secure the recovery of his documents. For some years past a doctor of the same name has enjoyed a lucrative practice at the town of Ashtield, New South Wales, on the suburban railway line ; but in some minds there have been doubts as to his bona tides. , The Medical Board of the colony, after making necessary inquiry, summoned this Dr. Drummond before them, but since their invitation was issued the psuedo-medico has been missing, and it is alleged that he has decamped with £6000, a portion of a legacy left to his wife.
