At the Police Court to-day, a young man named Frank Cogan was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour in Mount Eden Gaol, for making use of obscene language in Queen-streeb on Saturday evening last. The prisoner was taken to Auckland per s.s. Rotomahana this evening in charge of Constable Bullen. [press association.] Wellington, Monday. The Inspector of Police has received a telegram stating that a rabbiter named Galbraith is supposed to have been drowned on Thursday last in the Oatangi River. Dunedin, Monday. George's Victoria Hotel, at Naseby, with the adjoining premises of Evans, chemist, was destroyed by fire. The bunk of New Zealand and other buildings were also damaged. Insurances : £400 in the National and £515 in the Victoria Office.
