The Warden and Mining Inspector pro-, ceeded to Tapu this afternoon for the pur-' pose of making inquiries into the drains of homestead settlors for titles to their lands, the former having been instructed by the Government to make a final report on the subject, which has now been before them for some time. [press association.] Christchurch, Friday. The Minister of Education visited Lin> coin Agricultural College to-day. Ho leaves for Wellington to-morrow At a quarter-past eight this evening an empty house at North Avon Road, Richmond, belonging to Robert McCausland, caretaker of East Christchurch School, was burned down. It was insured for £140 in the New Zealand Office. The fire had gained a strong hold when observed, and the cause is not ascertained. Bluff, Friday. James Campbell, aged eighty, was arrested here by Detective Ede, charged with obtaining board and lodging from Saunders, of Christchurch, under false pretences. He will be remanded there.
