[press association.] DEATH OF PROFESSOR ANDREWS. London, October 9. Professor Andrews, of the Melbourne University, died near Aden on the 18th September on the passage home. Death resulted from an attack of apoplexy engendered by intense heat. The deceased gentleman was buried at sea. JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT. London, October 9. The Right Hon. J. H. A. McDonald, Q.C., Lord Advocate of Scotland, has been appointed to a Judgeship, and will be succeeded by J. P. B. Robertson, Q.C., Solicitor-General. TREATMENT OF JUVENILE CRIMINALS. London, October 9. The report of the Howard Association for the Improvement of the Condition of Prisoners eulogises the Australian treatment of juvenile criminals. A MUNIFICENT GIFT. London, October 9. The Goldsmiths' Company have declared their intention to endow the People's Institute, in south London, with a gift equal to £90,000. THE TIMES AND THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION. x London, October 9. ' The Times, in an article on the Melbourne Exhibition, states that the visit of Mr. F. H. Cowen to Victoria will result in permanent benefit to music in Australia. BECHUANALAND. _ London, October 9. _ Mr. W. H. Smith, in the course of his speech at Gloucester, said the Imperial Government had never intended to cede Bechuanaland to the Cape. THE GOVERNORSHIP OF QUEENSLAND. London, October 9. It is rumoured that Sir William Robinson, Governor of South Australia, will be appointed in the place of the late Sir Anthony Musgrave.
