THE A.J.C MEETING. The following is a description of the race for the Randwick Plate, weight for age, three miles :—Wycombe led at the commonest of canters, attended by Lamond, Abercorn, and The Australian Peer, for nearly a mile. The pace was so slow that Wycombe gradually increased it until a mile and a quarter had been travelled, when he suddenly stole away, and the others, holding him too cheaply, and thinking that he would soon come back, he led past the stand for the second time by something like 50 lengths. Another quarter of a mile was covered before the riders of the others appeared to realise the situation, when Lamond settled down in pursuit, and Abercorn and The Australian Peer going with him, the trio at last began to close on the leader. They gained considerably, and Lamond falling back beaten after passing the half-mile post, the two great guns commenced a hopeless stern chase after the leader, but they had given him far too much start, and he won easily by six lengths from Abercorn. The Peer swerved, and ran out into the centre of the course when called upon to finish, and thus enabled Abercorn to beat him by a length and a half for second place, and Lamond was some fifteen lengths away, last. Time, Bmin 471 sec. The betting was 7 to 4 against Lamond, 2 to 1 The Australian Peer, 3 to 1 Abercorn, 10 to 1 against Wycombe.
