VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT. Melbourne, September 7. In the Legislative Assembly last nighfi Mr. Munro's motion for an increase in the stock tax, which the Government accepted as a want of confidence, waa negatived by 51 to 25.
SENTENCE OF DEATH.
Melbourne, September 7. At the Supreme Court to-day Mary Kempton, charged with the murder of her child at Warrnambool, was sen* tenced to death.
A POLITICAL LIBEL ACTION.
Sydney, September 7. The libel action, G. R. Dibbs v. the proprietors of the Daily Telegraph, concluded last night, after a hearing of ten days. The jury were unable to agree on a verdict, and were locked up all night. The alleged libel was published in a leading article on the 10th December last, commenting on Mr. Dibbs's financial statement, and which charged him with criminally manipulating public accounts and estimates. £25,000 damages are claimed. Later.
The jury in the libel case, G. R. Dibbs against the Sydney Daily Telegraph, have returned a verdict for the plaintifi for £100 and costs.
