} PRESS ASSOCIATION.] A CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTION". Brisbane, September 4. In July last a difficulty arose between His Excellency the Governor and his advisers, in consequence of the former declining to release a prisoner upon the advice tendered by his Ministers. The Premier thereupon asked His Excellency to dismiss his Ministers. Since then negotiations have been going on j but His Excellency has steadfastly declined to recede from the position he had previously taken up. To-day, therefore, Sir Plios. Mcllwraith placed his resignation in the hands ot His Excellency. In consequence of the resignation of Sir Thomas Mcllwraith, His Excellency the Governor has sent for Sir Samuel Griffith, the leader of the Opposition. Sir Thos. Mcllwraith has cabled the details of the dispute to the Colonial Office. NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITS AT MELBOURNE. Melbourne. September 4. At a meeting of New Zealanders, held here to-day, resolutions were passed condemning the representation of the minerals, timbers, and natural products of the colony at the Mel bourne Exhibition. A DOMESTIC TRAGEDY. Sydney, September 4. A publican named Keenahan, living near Tamworth, has been shot dead by his stepson, Arthur Coulton, aged 19. Coulton alleged that Keenahan seduced his sister. Coulton has been arrested. CABLE BROKEN. Port Darwin, September 4. The old cable has again broken, this time near Java. THE REPORTED OUTBREAK OF SMALLPOX. Sydney, September 4. Both the New South Wales and Victorian Governments have decided to take no action in quarantining vessels from Tasmania, as there is a doubt whether the case reported at Launceston is small-pox. THE SUEZ MAIL. Albany, September 3. Arrived : The Coromandel, from Plymouth. The following are passengers for New Zealand : — Messrs. Bugg, Scales, Simonsen, Creagh, Gough, Mrs. Edwards. THE PRISONER HOLT. Sydney, September 4. In the Appeal Court, Holt, ex-mana-ger of the Bank of New Zealand here, appealed against the decision of the lower Court handing over his interest in the Rosehill estate to the Bank. The appeal was dismissed. THE ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE. Sydney, September 4. The Australasian Society for the Advancement of Science has appointed committees of its members to consider the proposed expedition to explore the Antarctic regions, and the seismological phenomena in Australasia. THE KAIKOURA Hobart, September 4. Arrived last night at nine o'clock : The Kaikoura, from Plymouth and the Cape. She has 79 passengers for New Zealand and 51 for Australia.
