[press association.] Feilding, Saturday. The Government Insurance Department have paid the amount of Percival Bear's policy. Masterton, Saturday A farmhouse at Opaki, known as Banister's old homestead, was burnt down yesterday. It was owned by Mr. Builk and occupied by Mr. Lyons. The building was insured in the New Zealand Office for £300. The contents were uninsured. A very important decision was given yesterday in the case Official Assignee versus Hull, in which the former sought to obtain from the Judge of the District Court an order directing the Wellingron Land Board to transfer the interest of Hull, bankrupt, in a deferred payment section to the Official Assignee for the benefit of his creditors, Judge Davey held that under the Act he no power to make such an order. Christchukch, Saturday. A rifle match between the First Canterbury Battalion and the Second Battalion of Devonshire Regiment of regulars has been won by the former by 15 points, the scores being: Canterbury, 766; Devonshire, 751. The terms were ten men, seven shots, 200, 300, and 400 yards. The volunteers fired with the Sniders and the regulars with Martinis.
