ATTACKED BY NATIVES.
SERIOUS AFFRAY IN NEW BRITAIN. AN EXPLORING PART'S WOUNDED. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Sydney, August 29. News has been received from New Guinea of a serious encounter with New Britain natives by Judge Schmeile, Judge for Kaiser "Wilhelm's Land and the Bismarck Archipelago. Judge Schmeile was on a private exploring tour in New Britain, and was accon* panied by three Germans and two othei whites. The party was attacked by the natives, but after a short struggle the latter were driven off, though not before the Judge was shot in the hand, and the other members of the party speared, one seriously in the back. All were recovering from their wounds when the steamer left New Guinea.
