[press association.] WRECK OF A SHIP. Melbourne, August 28. The ship Diamond, coal laden, from Newcastle to San Francisco, sprung a leak, and was beached at Maldon Island, where she became a wreck. The crew have arrived here. STRIKE OF CARPENTERS. Melbourne, August 28. A carpenters' strike is pending here, the men demanding a decrease ot hours of working. THE NEW FLAGSHIP. Sydney, August 28. It is stated that during the voyage of H.M.s. Orlando, the new flagship of the Australian squadron, her condensers worked unsatisfactorily, and the crew were put on short allowance of water; also that the ventilation of the ship proved defective, occasioning muck sickness. A MEMBER, Sydney, August 28. Mr. T. H. H. Goodwin, member for Gunnedah, has resigned his seat in the Assembly. AMALGAMATION OF FIRMS. Sydney, August 28. The firms of R. Goldsbrough and Co.
