Her Majesty the Queen has written a letter thanking the Nvomen of the United Kingdom and the colonies for their gifts in connection with the cele* bration of her jubilee. FATAL FIRE. Berlin, August 25. A destructive fire broke out in a factory at Hamburg to-day, causing immense damage. It is estimated that the loss amounts to several million marks. Six lives were lost. ARREST OF AN IRISH EDITOR. London, August 27. Mr. Walsh, editor of the Wexford People, has been arrested on a charge of conspiracy. DEATH OF A BISHOP. London, August 26. The death is announced of the Anglican Bishop of Michigan. The deceased prelate was visiting England as a delegate to the Pan-Anglican Conference, recently held at Lambeth Palace. ALARMING RAILWAY ACCIDENT. Paris, August 26. A train running between Lyons and St. Etienne was buried by a landslip yesterday, but no casualties are re>ported. DISASTROUS CONFLAGRATION". Berne, August 26, A factory at Aarburg on the Aare took fire, and before the names were subdued the whole street, comprising a number o£ large factories, was destroyed. Ten thousand operatives have been thrown out of employment by the dis aster. the sugar Bounties. London, August 27. It has been arranged that the Sugar Bounties Treaty shall be signed by the Powers on Wednesday next, with ths exception of France. ARREST OF THE REDMONDS. London, August 27. Messrs. W. and J. L. Redmond, M.P.'s, have been arrested on a charge of conspiring to prevent re-letting of lands in Ireland. Both accused have been admitted to bail.
