CHARGE OF PERJURY.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Napier, Sunday. The R.M. Court was occupied till after ten o'clock last night in hearing the charge of perjury brought against F. D. Luckie, commission agent, of Hastings, by B. C. Ware, his clerk. In the Renata will case, and subsequently in bankruptcy proceedings, Luckie swore that he was in financial difficulties through Ware embezzling over £400, the property of Mr. Tanner, M.H.R., and that he had a letter from Ware admitting the embezzlement. Ware laid the present information. He admitted writing the letter, but said it was done under pressure, to save Luckie, and on a promise that it should be destroyed after being shown to Mr. Tanner. He also admitted
I taking certain moneys as wages, and ' having paid some to Luckie. He could : not account for £346 outside the payments I made to Luckie, but he denied having 1 taken so much as that, though he alone had j the keys of the cash-box and safe, also j charge of the books, which were correctly j kept. Ultimately the cause was adjourned j till Monday. After that is disposed of Ware I will be prosecuted for embezzlement on the information of Luckie.
