The attempt of the Porte to enlist the sympathy of Germany in a note pro testing against the Italian annexation of Massowah has met with a sharp rebuff at the hands of Count Herbert Bis- . marck, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.

Rome, August 21. Signor Crispi has left for Berlin to consult with Prince Bismarck with reference to the Massowah difficulty.
