New Plymouth, Thursday. Mr. McG'allum, the Government Dairy Instructor, arrived here by the 11 o'clock train yesterday, and loft by the s.s. Wanaka for Auckland in the afternoon. Surprise is expressed that he did not communicate with any of the dairy farmers of this dis, trict.

Wellington, Thursday. In fcho Divorce Court a decree was made absolute in the case of Henley v. Henley. In the case of Fieberg v. Fieberg, husband's petition for divorce, a decree nisi was granted.

Blenheim, Thursday. A man named Middleton, for larceny from his mate at Hillersledon Station, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment; Charles Ellis, alias Charles Jackson, for false pretences, was strongly recommended to mercy, and got .one month in gaol. Christchukch, Thursday. McDonald, who was found dead on the Port Hills on Sunday, turns out to be Donald McDonald, formerly well known in Otago and Canterbury as a Highland piper. He had property in South Canterbury.

TrMARtf, Thursday. At the Supreme Court W. McSweeny was charged with forgery. He had made out and presented a valueless cheque for £9 (signed " W. Anglan" in favour of " W. Anglan") at the shop of Ballantyne and Co., drapers, and being asked to endorse it did so, "W. Anglan "; and he said he was the W. Anglan named. He bought £2 worth of goods and got the balance in change. These facts being proved, Mr. C. Perry, for the defence, argued that this was not forgery, as Ballantyne and Co. relied on the credit of the person presenting the cheque, and not on that of a third party. They knew no other than this pretended "W. Anglan." The charge ought to have been one of false pretences. The Crown prosecutor admitted that a case cited was fatal, and the judge directed accordingly. Reuben Jones, an ex-publican of Geraldine, was sentenced to six months' hard labour for fraudulent bankruptcy. He had received about £1000 before he was declared bankrupt, and accounted for only half of it. This closes the criminal session.

Ddnedin; Thursday. At the City Court, George L. Mattheson, trustee to the Druids, was charged with embezzling the lodge funds. After some evidence nad been adduced, the accused wits remanded for eight days. Bail was allowed, the amount being fixed at £300.
