EXTRAORDINARY POISONING CASE.
An attempt has been made at Hatfield, New South Wales, to poison the inmates of the Royal Mail Hotel. A man has been arrested and charged with the offence. It is stated that the accused was in love with a woman living at the hotel, and in a fit of jealousy he attempted to poison the woman, a man named Walter Ross, and Lane, the proprietor of the hotel. Strychnine was found in the water butt, in the fountain on the bar counter, in the kettle, on the meat in the kitchen, and mixed with the flour. A number of fowls and a dog died from the effects of the poison, but the effect on the persons mentioned is not serious.
