PARNELL AND THE TIMES.

ACTION IN SCOTLAND.

CLAIM FOR £50,000 DAMAGES.

A SURPRISE MOVEMENT.

[PRKSS ASSOCIATION.]

London, August 13. Mr. Parnell has served an arrestment upon the Edinburgh agents of the London Times, in order that lie may be enabled to bring proceedings against the proprietor of that paper for charges made against him. £50,000 damages are claimed.

Parnell's action against the Times will be tried in Scotland in November. The proceedings are not barred, as they were commenced prior to the Koyal assent being given to the Commission Bill.

The Times expresses surprise at the action of Mr. Parnell, and contends that the proceedings are brought too late, and only with the object of evading a statutory enquiry.

Messrs. O'Connor and John Redmond, M.P.'s, have commenced separate actions in England against the proprietors of the Times for charges made against them.

Sir Charles Eussell, instructed by Mr. George Lewis, the well - known solicitor, will conduct the case of the Irish members before the Commission.
