Saxon.At No. 5 level the contractors are making fair headway, the country being much better for progress. Seventeen feet have been driven during the past week, making the face 184 feet from the shaft; the reef is 15 inches in thickness, and shows colours of gold. On the footwall reef being worked from No. 4 level, the ninth and tenth stopes have been advanced each about nine feet; the lode is well defined, and colours of gold arc frequently seen in it. On No. 1 footwall leader the fifth stope has been advanced eight feet, and the sixth and seventh nine feet each. This leader is about seven inches in thickness and continues to show good colours of gold. At No. 3 level the drive on course of hangingwall portion of reef has been advanced seven feet; a little quartz in the shape of a small leader is showing in the face, but no more work will be done here until the leading stope is up to the head which cut off the reef in the drive. The leading stope here has been advanced nine feet, the second, third, and fourth 11 feet each ; the reef in all is from 15 to IS inches, well defined, carrying good minerals and showing gold occasionally. On footwall part of reef the leading stope has been extended seven feet, the second stope nine, and the third stope 11 feet; the reef in these stopes is one toot thick, containing favourable minerals and showing colours of gold. The amalgam on hand to date amounts to 5650z lUdwt., and as soon as Mr". Dunlop returns this will be retorted. The manager telegraphed yesterday :251} loads of general dirt crushed for l'JSoz retorted gold.
