THE POINT RESOLUTION AFFAIR.
[BY TELEGRAPH.SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Friday. Mr. Fulton asked the Goverdment to-day when they intended to bring In the promised Bill on this subject. The Colonial Secretary said the Bill was being prepared by the law officers of the Crown. I understand that the Hon. Mr. Hislop intends at once to ask for leave to introduce the Bill, which is entitled, "The Special Powers and Contracts Amendment Bill," and that it will be circulated early next week. I learn that Mr. Kissling has written a lengthy letter to the Premier on the case, in which he intimates that if he loses the freehold of the land the question of his compensation should be reopened. The letter was referred to the members of the Point Resolution Committee for perusal, and Mr. Fulton has placed a memorandum upon it to the effect that he fails to see that view of the case. All that the committee desire to see is the native trust reinstated. Mr. sling- will fall back into the enjoyment of all the improvements he may have made, whatsoever they may be, and at the end of his 48 years' lease it is a matter between him and the trustees as to what compensation shall be made at the end of that period.
