THE ABSCONDING BANK CLERK

[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Wednesday. Porter, the absconding bank clerk, was last heard of near Lichfield by a native, and Constable Brennan started in pursuit yesterday morning. Some suppose Porter is making for Wellington, where his father resides, and will try to compromise the matter, making restitutution. As Porter took the Bank revolver and cartridges his arrest may be accompanied with danger. The total defalcations amount.to £110, commencing with £30 embezzled last November, and ending with £10 takon on Friday afternoon. Two cheques and a deposit slip were found at the defaulter's house on Saturday, £10, the balance of the deposit being taken with him. Porter's wife resides at Napier. He kept his marriage a secret, owing to the bank rules, and since he has lived in Cambridge was looked upon as an eligible bachelor, and by reports current has trifled with the* affections of more than one young lady here.
