[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN' CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Monday. The dead body of a man afterwards identified as being a bushnmn named Charlee O'Hagnn, was found early yesterday morning, lying on the Beach Road, near Tararu Cemetery, by a milkman named Francis McCormick. On the matter being reported to the police, efforts were made to ascertain the cause of death, with the result that a paper was found close by where deceased lay, which had contained " Rough on Rats," the contents of which deceased evidently had taken. From facts afterwards obtained, it seems that deceased had endeavoured to obtain from the local chemists on Saturday the above poison, on the plea of wanting it for the destruction of rate, with which he said his place was infested, but in every instance he was refused. Eventually however, he managed to induce a companion to get it for him on the same plea. What his reasons were for the sad deed aro not known. At the inquest it was stated that the deceased had bee-n drinking somewhat heavily during tho past week. A verdict that deceased came to his death by taking " Rough on Rate " while In a state of temporary insanity was returned.
