THE CHINESE QUESTION.
[TRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Sydney. June 15. Tasmania dissents from the decisions of the Conference, and the objections taken have been wired to Lord Knutsford. All the other colonies are satisfied. Western Australia, being a Crown colony, has not expressed an opinion. A number of Victorian Chinese sent a petition to the Conference protesting against past injustice, and stating that the present law is sufficiently stringent. Forty Chinese on the Changsha at Newcastle waited upon the captain, armed with knives and tomahawk*, and insisted upon the repayment of £10 each before they returned to China. The money was paid.
