THE AMATEUR OPERA CLUB.

TO the editor. Sir,—Permit me through your columns to rectify an impression which has crept into the minds of several of the old members of the Auckland Amateur Opera Club. A report) has been circulated that the present newlyelected Managing Committee of the club have selected for themselves the leading parts in the opera " Pirates of Penzance," which is shortly to be performed. This is perfectly untrue. In the first place, the parts were allotted before several of these gentlemen were in office, and, apart from that, they have no power to select the soloists, this being one of the duties of the Executive Committee, none of whose mombers are in the present cast. It seems a pity that such statements as these should gain currency, as it tends to create discontent among the members, whereas it should be the unanimous desire of all to assist the officers, rather than to put obstacles of this sort in their path.— &c, A Committeeman.
