MR. REISCHEK.

This well-known naturalist, several of whose interesting letters we have lately printed, yesterday reached Te Aroha from Rotorua, and our correspondent wires that he will visit different places in the neighbourhood before coming on to Auckland. A week or two since we stated that Mr. Reischek was about to start from Wanganui on foot for Auckland, via Taupo, and he has now got as far on his journey as Te Aroha. A letter from him, received by a friend in Auckland, dated Tokana (Lake Taupo), May 11, says :• —" I left Wanganui on Thursday, May 3, and arrived here late on Wednesday, the 9th, walking 150 miles, and for twelve miles in mud up to the knees, also carrying a swag. I ascended Ruap>ehu to the highest peak. All along the road is a most interesting country. . I was rather knocked up, having to cross so-many ice-eold rivers, going in wet with perspiration. All through the natives were very kind. Really you do not known what a lovely and wonderful country you are in ! Here are the geysers, and in the South the glaciers, which cannot be equalled for beautiful scenery."
